Port de Sóller & Sóller - worth a visit
Port de Sóller was originally a small fishing village. The port started to grow in the 19th century when the export of citrus fruits grown in the area became big business. It now is a lively seaside resort in the northwest of Mallorca and is located in one of the most beautiful bays on the island. The beaches are flanked by a boulevard with terraces, shops and restaurants. The harbour on the north side of the bay and the Tramuntana Mountains in the background make it an enchanting picture.
Platja d’en Repic and Platja des Traves have a sandy beach, lined by a pedestrianized promenade. Remaining true to its traditional fishing harbour you can still find lots of fisher boats. There are several contemporary places popping up in the area, including top-notch restaurants and trendy cocktail bars. But no worries, also the more traditional places still exist. As a result, the town has undergone a bit of facelift in the last few years, with the seafront being tastefully redeveloped and the vintage tram that runs back and forth between Port de Sóller and Sóller. Port de Sóller has all the ingredients to make the perfect place for a vacation.
The atmospheric Sóller lies between a fertile valley with orange groves and the sea. Located 5 kilometers from the coast, Sóller is best known for its authentic wooden train.
In Sóller you can enjoy the sun on one of the beautiful terraces on the square near the church. Here you can enjoy a sandwich or fresh tapas while the people stroll by. With the nice cafes, restaurants, various tapas bars, and pastry shops there are few reasons to go here. The old town is typically Mediterranean, with narrow alleys. The main square has plenty of cafes and the area comes alive on Saturdays when the local market takes place. Sóller became wealthy from the abundance of oranges and the results are reflected in the extravagant modernist architecture of the village. The impressive church of Bartomeu dominates the town square and was built in the 13th century.
